Sea Vessel II

Sea Vessel II - cast in Jesmonite with a granite finish, May 2017

Sea Vessels I-III were produced for the Cley 17 Contemporary art exhibition, held at various sites in Cley-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk, in July/August 2017. The pieces were a continuation of
an exploration of ‘vessels’ within the natural world: the shells, pods or cases that remain once their inhabitants – be they creatures or plants – have transformed, moved on or ceased to be. Taking three shells found on Cley beach, in advancing stages of disintegration, Alison sought to celebrate the sculptural beauty of their forms, with their deep hollows and magical spirals, and reflect on how their capacity to act as vessels slowly diminishes as the shells are eroded by the sea, eventually to become particles of sand.

The pieces were cast in Jesmonite with a granite finish by Nick Brooks, Mouldmaking and Casting (see Links) and are suitable for placing outdoors. Sea Vessel II measures approximately 24cm H,40cm D and 35cm W.  It is available to buy in a limited edition of 5 (1 available).
