Seed Pod I (Lenten Rose)
Seed Pod I (Lenten Rose) - cast in white resin, August 2014
In this piece, Alison has turned to the natural world for inspiration, focussing on the remarkable sculptural but delicate intricacies of the Hellebore or Lenten Rose seed pod emptied of its cargo. It is an exploration of the relationship between the seed and the vessel ' ... in my end is my beginning ...' (T S Eliot, Four Quartets, Part II: East Coker) and a reflection on the botanical equivalent of 'the chicken and the egg' - seed or plant, which came first?
The piece, cast in white resin, measures approximately 15cm (height) by 20cm (diameter) and weighs 1.6kg. It is available to buy in a limited edition of 7 (4 available).
